Page types - Subtopic hub

Subtopic hub is a page type. Use it to present groups of related information that are part of a wider topic.

Subtopic hubs sit within main topic hub. An example of a Subtopic hub is Weaning and healthy eating.

When to use subtopic hub

Use subtopic hub when the content:

  • needs to be broken down into separate topics
  • is part of a main topic

Use content pages, curated hub or multi page guide for breaking down content within a subtopic.

When not to use subtopic hub

Do not use subtopic hub if the topic sits at the top level of the IA. Use main topic hub instead.

Do not use a subtopic hub within a curated hub.

How to use subtopic hub

Subtopic hub always sits under a main topic hub.

It always includes groups of topics broken down into content pages, curated hubs or multi-page guides.

You can use quick link and secondary page links in a subtopic hub.

Arrange secondary page links in 3 columns when building subtopic hub on a desktop device.

We call the short pieces of text on page types, 'microcopy'. Use microcopy in the presentation of links and for short overview text.

Overview description on subtopic hub should give the user a broad idea of content they will find within the main topic hub.

Keep the microcopy to 2 lines maximum when designing on a desktop device. Include mentions of content of highest user need.

Keep page link microcopy to subtopic hubs to 1 line. A maximum of 2 lines is OK when needed.

Keep page link descriptions to a maximum of 2 lines when designing on a desktop device.
