Making HSE digital services inclusive - Meeting EU and Irish accessibility requirements

Online content must be accessible to provide equal access and equal opportunity to people with disabilities. It’s a human right.

The EU and Irish Accessibility Directive outlines our legal obligations. It is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines which is the accepted international standard.

Making it AA

There are 3 levels of compliance - A, AA and AAA. The content we publish online must, at a minimum, meet AA standard.

Being compliant means that users of different abilities using different devices can always access our content.

The most accessible experience for users is accessing content on webpages. This is because we always aim for our webpages to comply with WCAG 2.1 AA.
