Making HSE digital services inclusive - Designing for everyone
We want to ensure our online services can be used by as many people as possible. Designing in this way is the right thing to do.
In 2024, we know that around 74% of users accessing our website are using a mobile device. From the 2022 census, we know that around 12% of people in Ireland are non-Irish nationals and English may be a second language. Some 22% of people in Ireland describe themselves as having at least one long-lasting condition or difficulty. Many people have temporary or situational disabilities. These can cause various types of access barriers.
Temporary or situational disabilities affect everyone at some stage.
Examples could include a person:
- with a broken limb or holding a child, experiencing reduced mobility
- in a noisy environment trying to work or watch a video
- on the go, using hands free software
- on a device with sun glare, making accessing content challenging
